Oprah Gail Winfrey, a media proprietor is the richest African American of the 21st century. She is also a talk host, actress, producer and a philanthropist. She was the daughter of a unmarried woman who worked as a housemaid. She was brought up in a poor family but she became the honored student in her high school and studied in Tennessee State University with full scholarship. She also became the victim of sexual abuse by her own relatives during her early age. Despite of being abused, she talked about it and her personal matters on her show. At first, She was engaged in a radio station where the station manager were impressed by her passion and performance and later she appeared in different TV shows as well.

Winfrey, today is a Billionaire woman and is renowned for best hosting on her own internationally popular talk show from 1986 to 2011. She later launched her own TV Network, the Oprah Winfrey Network. In, 1976 She hosted the hit TV chat show People Are Talking. After involving it in 8 years she started hosting her own morning show, A.M Chicago. Her passion and hard working made her to achieve the first place in hosting the show. In, 1985 she also played a role model in Steven Spielberg’s film named The Color Purple for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for the best Supporting Actress. In, 1986 she launched her own show, Oprah Winfrey Show as a national program. The show gained $125 at the end of first year from which she received $30 million. Later she gained the ownership of the program from ABC, and she launched a new production company, Harpo productions. In, 1989 her projects associated with Harpo had included highly rated miniseries,The women Of Brewster Place. Apart from this, Winfrey is also a publisher and “Oprah’s Book Club” was launched as a part of her talk show where she turned unknown authors to the Best Book sellers. Winfrey also co-founded a company named Oxygen Media which is involved in producing cable and internet programming for women. She was involved in different sectors.

Furthermore, The Oprah Magazine was featured in 2000 and in 2004 she signed a new contract to continue The Oprah Winfrey Show. Now, the show is seen in about 212 U.S stations and in more than 100 countries worldwide. In, march 2015 she declared that her Harpo Studios would close so as to combine the company’s productions operations to her Angel Network. In, 2005 she was named as as the greatest black philanthropist in American history. Besides, Winfrey’s involvement in media she is also involved in social acts. Her Angel Network has  raised more than $51,000,000 for charitable programs by which she opened the two school in south Africa to provide education to the needy girls and to provide the relief to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

She is also actively involved against the violence of child rights and their abuse. In fact, she had proposed to create database of child abusers to the president Clinton in 1994 for the welfare of children. Winfrey, called as the Queen of talk has personally donated millions of dollars to the victim of poverty and abused people. In September 2002, Oprah was named as the first recipient of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences’ Bob Hope Humanitarian Award. In November 2013 Winfrey received nation’s highest honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and had an access of 2.9 billion dollars for her great contributions to the country.

Oprah Winfrey is the most influential and a role model for the today’s women. She has achieved an incredible amount of success throughout her life. Her ability to face and connect to the audience made her an idol. She is an entertainer, educator, social activists and many more.
